Abstract

Pressure drop of arrays of blocks arranged In-line on the wall of parallel channel was measured. The flow on the blocks was visualized by a surface oil-film method. The square block height and the pitch of the blocks were varied. The effects of the number of line and row and the other factors on the pressure loss were clarified. The coefficient of loss ζ is given by the sum of the losses of three regimes: the inlet, outlet and intermediate parts ζ1, ζ3 and ζ2, respectively. The values of ζ1 and ζ3 depend mainly on the blockage ratio of the channel and the value of ζ2 depends on the pitch and numbers of row of the block. The coefficient ζ can be formulated and the recomended equation agrees with the experimental data within ±15%.
