Abstract

A three‐dimensional zinc MOF, JXNU‐4, constructed from adeninate and 4,4′‐biphenyldicarboxylate (BPDC2–) ligands was utilized for capture of uranium(VI). JXNU‐4 features one‐dimensional channels decorated by uncoordinated carboxylate oxygen atoms, which are the potential binding sites for uranium(VI) ions. The sorption of uranium(VI) onto the water‐stable JXNU‐4 was systematically investigated. The batch experimental results indicate that JXNU‐4 captures uranium(VI) from aqueous solutions efficiently and quickly. The uranium(VI) sorption behavior of JXNU‐4 follows the Langmuir sorption model and is assigned to chemisorption, which is due to the presence of the periodic arrangement of uncoordinated carboxylate oxygen atoms exposed on the channels. This work presents an elegant example for the efficient separation of uranium(VI) from aqueous solution by using carboxylate oxygen‐functionalized pore channels.
