Abstract

Abstract A comparison of zeroth and first order mixing statistics of interstitial solid solutions is presented. Conditions of applicability and limitations of the two models are discussed in relation to the solubility of carbon in austenite and of hydrogen in metals. The high temperature limit of the first order model is noted.
