Abstract

The SARS-CoV-2 main protease, Mpro, is a highly selective protein responsible for separating the polyprotein produced by the viral RNA into its functional units, which subsequently play critical roles in viral replication. Mpro is highly conserved among sarbecoviruses and essential for viral reproduction, making it an important target for genomic and biophysical study. Within the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous genomic variants have emerged, many of which have been detected from clinical samples.
