Abstract

An 8-element wideband printed dipole antenna array is analyzed and successfully implemented. The element used is double-sided elliptic printed dipole fed by a balanced transmission line. A wide-band balun from a microstrip feeding line to a balanced transmission line for the array was designed and implemented. Good agreement between the simulated and measured results of the array was observed. In the frequency band l-2.64GHz, the measured VSWR is below 2.0. In the frequency band 1–2.5GHz, the designed array has directional radiation pattern and its gain is between 14dB and 17.3dB. So the relative bandwidth which can meet both impedance and radiation characteristic requirements is 85.7%.
