Abstract

In this letter, a wideband dual-band magneto-electric dipole antenna with improved feeding structure is presented. A U-shaped electric dipole antenna is employed to generate the dual resonant frequencies. A folded shorted patch that works as a magnetic dipole antenna is assembled vertically to the ground plane. The antenna is excited by a novel feeding line with a polygonal structure that is designed to improve the impedance matching. Simulated and measured results show that the dual operation bands with bandwidths of 72% from 1.48 to 3.15 GHz and 21% from 4.67 to 5.78 GHz for |S 11 | <; -10 dB were achieved. Stable and symmetric unidirectional radiation patterns, low cross-polarization level, low back-radiation, and an antenna gain ranging from 6.5 to 9.1 dBi were obtained over the dual operating bands.
