Abstract
In this letter, a novel wideband circularly polarized (CP) dielectric patch antenna (DPA) featuring low profile and relatively high gain property is investigated for Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E applications. Multiple modes of the feeding structure are excited which produces a wide impedance bandwidth (IBW). The introduction of FR4 branches in the air cavity helps to achieve a wider IBW of 48.3% (4.63–7.58 GHz). The E-field inside the air cavity acquires perturbation from the coupling of two dielectric patches (DP), which contributes to obtaining better CP performance. It can help achieve a wide axial ratio bandwidth of 35.3% ranging from 5.15 to 7.36 GHz for the proposed DPA. As the upper dielectric patch works as a director, a measured peak gain is increased to 8.47 dBic. Based on the multilayer PCB structure, the high permittivity dielectric patches loaded are packaged inside the FR4 substrates and fixed by branches. Therefore, a low-profile DPA with a height of 0.13 λ</i> 0 is obtained and exhibits self-packaging for DP elements.
