Abstract

It was found that Statnul, which is manufactured in Weston Instruments, may be substituted for Aquadag as a conductive coating for ion chambers. Although its resistivity is higher, it is sufficiently low to conduct essentially static charge. Its low density compared to Aquadag allows surfaces coated with it to have less self-absorption and to exhibit less scatter of the incident radiation. The best method of coating a surface with Statnul is to dip it into a beaker of the solution. Alternately, an excess amount of the solution may be brushed upon the material. Thin films should be kept under tension during the coating process. After allowing the solution to air dry, the material is lightly buffed until the gloss changes from dull to sheen. (P.C.H.)
