Abstract

This essay investigates the role of “old” media imaginaries in Web history under two complementary perspectives: on the one hand, media imaginaries shaped and framed the narratives of the inventors themselves concerning the genesis of the World Wide Web. On the other hand, imaginaries and narratives of media played a strategic role for the actual invention and the global spread of the new medium.
