Abstract

The mining sector is extremely concerned about coal mine safety. Mine accidents can have a variety of causes and effects, such as catastrophic mine failure, significant pecuniary losses, and most importantly, the harm for life. Therefore, any effort to monitor mines is crucial for advancing safety surveillance and maintenance. Numerous researchers have developed and designed a wearable alert system for miner safety in coal mines. Even though, predominant literature is available for improving the security and safety of miners, the existing systems are facing severe challenges due to the unpredictable environmental changes and also with machinery failures in the mines. Hence, it is essential to implement an efficient monitoring and alert system for mining workers in an underground environment. Therefore, this work is focused on design and development of smart alert system for miners which is wearable and ensures the safety by sending the sensible sirens demonstrating the illness of worker in coal mines. The proposed system consists of temperature sensor, heartbeat sensor, gas sensor, display unit and GSM module. The interfacing of proposed system has been done through Arduino.
