Abstract

EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE (EBP), the application of evidence to practice, has become a primary focus in the delivery of safe, quality patient care. The foundation of EBP is high-level, quality evidence. Unfortunately, evidence to support practice is frequently scant or nonexistent in the nursing, and particularly the perianesthesia nursing literature, as we are very much a developing science. This issue of JOPAN, however, does much to build the science of the specialty in familiar areas of interest. Vallire D. Hooper, PhD, RN, CPAN, FAAN, is a Perianesthesia Consultant, Assistant Professor, and PhD Program Assistant Director, School of Nursing, Medical College of Georgia, and an EBP/Research Consultant, MCGHealth, Augusta, GA.
