Abstract

A W-band solid state source (SSS) for imaging array was presented in this paper. This SSS consists of an active six-times frequency multiplying sub-module, a driver amplifier and a final 4-ways power-combined amplifier. Commercial available monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), discrete Schottky diodes and micro-strip circuits were interconnected with hybrid integrated process. Under the 0dBm input of Ku-band signals, the developed SSS produces an output power of greater than 2 watts from 90 to 96 GHz, the spurious suppression is better than -40dBc. Measurement results indicated that this SSS can be deployed as a W-band transmitter, fundamental excitation source for terahertz frequency multiplying chain or local oscillator (LO) source for terahertz receivers.
