Abstract

This paper describes a new method of multiplexing TV-Anytime metadata and audio-visual (AV) contents. This metadata will be used to provide personalized services such as user customized program summary and content-based segment search in digital broadcasting environments. The procedure we propose is as follows. First, an individual MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) comprising only metadata as its component is generated. In the multiplexing process, two individual TS streams for AV contents and metadata are merged into a bitstream by replacing the null packets in the AV MPEG-2 TS with metadata TS packets. And program specific information (PSI) about both metadata and AV contents is reconstructed. By means of de-multiplexing process, we verify that the bit-streams multiplexed by proposed algorithms are compliant with newly amended MPEG-2 Systems.
