Abstract

A numerical ray model of surface gravity wave refraction was applied to a coastal area of the Gulf of Genoa. A series of refraction diagrams was computed by means of wave data recorded at a moored oil-platform which operates 1.5 miles off the harbour of Genoa. The numerical calculations provided wave energy concentration effects near the city of Savona where coastal structures and beaches are often damaged during storm surges.p
