Abstract
A situation is presented in which the satellite images seem to display all the ingredients of a wave on the polar front. It is shown that the cloud features, although situated entirely in the cold air, contained weak frontal characteristics. The system's size, the associated narrow band of strong winds ahead of it and the precipitation pattern, however, match those of some polar lows. It is demonstrated that the shape of the system was due to semi-horizontal deformation, whereas the frontal characteristics were the result of slight baroclinicity in the cold air stream.
