Abstract

This study aimed to design a wave energy converter that featured a swinging mechanism and a magnetic gear; this mechanism can transmit the wave energy of a buoy to a generator to create power. A pitch circle was used in the design of the magnetic gear transmission instrument. Finite element analysis was performed to analyse the magnetic flux density of the permanent magnet. The relationships between the equivalent current and magnetic flux density were used to estimate the force and torque between magnetic gears. The acting force was obtained from the buoy according to the geometric relationships of the transmission mechanism. The sliding phenomenon of the magnetic gear transmission in the pole pair of the permanent magnet was investigated, and improved methods were provided.
