Abstract
We show that the proof for gauge independence of Green functions by functional integral methods is not always reliable because using similar formalism we could show that the fermionic two-point function in U(1) gauge theory is gauge independent, which is an incorrect result. A two-dimensional integral with similar structure is analysed and a possible explanation for this flaw is given.
