Abstract

We have successfully demonstrated a walk-off balanced nonlinear fiber loop mirror (WBNFLM)-type all-optical switch for 10 Gb/s signal of 1.3-/spl mu/m wavelength with 1.5-/spl mu/m control pulses. This switching scheme, as compared with the conventional types of NFLM, allows the switching speed to go above the limitation imposed by walk-off effects and jitter tolerance to be maximum without degradation of on-off ratio.
