Abstract
Sneezing and itching have figured largely in many comic films since the very start of cinema. Beginning in the 1970s, many episodes of allergic attacks have appeared on screen, particularly in comedies. We shall explain why allergy is such a frequent device in comedies.. Our demonstration will be based on films such as La Chèvre (Knock on Wood), Mrs Doubtfire, Hitch, and others. We will also be discussing animated films. The series The Simpsons very often broached the subject. Recently, the release of the animation film, Peter Rabbit, caused a polemic that we shall also examine. Finally, we will take a look at the film Safe, which examines a more tragic aspect of the question, and we shall examine the underlying reasons.
