Abstract

At the last annual meeting of the College Art Association members were invited to participate in a new program whose purpose is to provide assistance in various professional skills to the art departments of small under-privileged colleges. The Board of CAA believes that this organization should do more in the way of professional guidance for art departments which, through lack of experience, of administrative support, or of budget, are prevented from performing at a proper professional level. Many departments hampered by these problems are in Negro colleges, although, one suspects, that if the truth were known, similar problems would be revealed in many colleges and perhaps even in some of the larger universities, and the CAA program is intended to be available to any art department requesting it. In recent months, however, the CAA Board has received a number of requests for this kind of assistance from colleges whose enrollment is predominantly Negro and the list of volunteer consultants will be mailed to them.
