Abstract

An Eulerian method to solve the vortex sheet dynamics of an interface captured by a Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) transport scheme is presented. The VoF scalar, vortex sheet strength, and interfacial area are numerically transported using an unsplit geometric scheme and source terms are evaluated with finite differences. Several methods are proposed to generate the self-induced vortex sheet velocities and the methods are assessed based on their computational feasibility and solution verification properties. A grid convergence study is conducted to evaluate the convergence properties of the VoF vortex sheet method and several classical hydrodynamic instabilities are presented to highlight the capabilities of the method in 2D and 3D. Results are compared against prior literature and Direct Numerical Simulations.
