Abstract
The design of low-cost, portable, vocalized color recogition system for the blind has been described in detail. The system in its minimum configuration, can recognize 24 colors with 100-percent accuracy using separate templates for the broad surface categories: full gloss, semigloss, and matt. The design rationale is comprehensively discussed to facilitate the expansion of the system for better color and spatial resolutions.
