Abstract

Marine risers are the key instruments used in connecting the oil platform and submarine facility. When the ocean flow past the risers with the specific velocity, the vortex formed behind the body is alternately shed. As the result, the induced fluctuated fluid forces lead to the vibration of risers along the cross flow, called vortex-induced vibration (VIV). The computation and analysis of VIV in the design of deepwater riser are very important. Most software is usually run in the workstation. In present work, the numerical simulation software for VIV is applied and developed in the computer by mixed programming based on VB, Fortran and Matlab on VB software platform. The method in realizing mixed program is presented. In uniform and shear incoming flows, the time histories of amplitude response and oscillating modes for deepwater risers undergoing VIV can be obtained by the developed numerical simulation software, VIV IMECH 1.0. Present software has many advantages, such as simple operation, fast computation, good practicability and lower requirements for computer and memory storage, therefore easily applied in engineering practice.
