Abstract

A simple viscometric method for measuring the adsorbed layer thickness of polymers on nonspherical particles is proposed. With the use of viscosities at infinite shear rate the effects of flocculation are eliminated and an empirical equation relating phase volume with viscosity is obtained. By use of this equation immobilized polymer thicknesses at the solid/liquid interface have been calculated and related to polymer structure.
