Abstract
Methylthiomethyl p-tolyl sulfone ( 1) can be utilised for synthesizing α-hydroxy ketones as well as α-hydroxy aldehydes, the hydroxyl group of which is protected with acetyl, tetrahydropyranyl, or methoxymethyl group.
