Abstract
An anemometer is described which allows the integrated wind displacement in the four cardinal directions to be recorded directly. The instrument comprises a cup anemometer movement and a wind vane. The movement of the cups is communicated through gearing to a ball floating in mercury, and the plane of rotation of the ball is governed by the wind vane. Rotations of the ball in the four cardinal directions are measured by light friction wheels which transmit electrical impulses to counters.
