Abstract

An analysis of laminar film boiling with variable properties is presented. The investigation is made on the basis of boundary-layer theory. Results are presented for film boiling of water at atmospheric pressure for wall temperatures up to 1273 K and water bulk temperatures from 343 to 373 K. The effect of subcooling on various heat fluxes is demonstrated. Solutions for variable property and constant property heat flux differ less than 20% in the range investigated. No reference temperature can be found at which all constant property results coincide with all variable property results.
