Abstract
Reconfigurable antennas are getting more attention because of having numerous functionalities. In this work, a novel wide band frequency reconfigurable U-shaped dielectric resonating antenna has been presented and analyzed for future 5G applications. The proposed design has the potential to switch the frequency at three different wide bands between 7.5 GHz and 14.5 GHz. The U-shaped dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with permittivity 10.2 is fed by micro strip line of 50 Ohm and. 035mm height for impedance matching. To improve the values of the return loss and enhance the bandwidth, the DRA is stacked with a micro strip patch at backside. The re-configurability is achieved using PIN diodes as switches on the ground plane. The switches are placed on the rectangular slot made on the ground plane. There are three switching states i.e., OFF-OFF, OFF-ON, ON-FF which helps to attain the shift in three different wide operating bands. The overall size of the proposed design is found to be $30\times 28\times 4.535 \mathbf{mm}^{3}$ . The simulated results shows that the proposed design provides three wide bands operations with 32.5%, 25% and 87.25% bandwidth respectively.
