Abstract
Today's Internet is a massive, distributed network which continues to grow in size as globalization takes major role in everyone's life. The problem is complicated by the fact that one cannot rely on the cooperation of individual servers and routers to aid in the collection of network traffic measurements vital for these tasks. Packet Forwarding Priority can have a significant impact on the performance of applications, the accuracy of measurement tools' results and the effectiveness of network troubleshooting procedures. Network tomography studies can be used to increase quality of service by limiting link packet loss and increasing routing optimization. Congestion control method to avoid the negative effects of network congestion is by implementing priority schemes, so that some packets are transmitted with higher priority than others. Despite their potential impact, no information on these settings is readily available to end users. Hence we go for network monitoring method based on packet probing in the network. This paper presents a hybrid inference method to deal with network characteristics such as shared congestion, packet forwarding priority, network tomography and evaluates each methodology based on packet loss rate.
