Abstract

This paper aims to present a computer implementation of a discrete alternative multiple criteria decision support system, where special attention is paid to the interactivity with the decision maker (DM). This decision support system (DSS) integrates a problem editor, a problem compiler, a discrete multiple criteria decision aid method base, a dialogue base and a data management module. The DSS tries to make the most of a suitable computer interface in order to minimize the cognitive effort required from the OM. The method base offers the DM some of the most representative discrete alternative multiple criteria methods, enabling the methods to interact and share information. The keystone of the DSS is a dialogue base which makes extensive use of graphical and tabular displays for presenting the data, and offers a rather flexible and user-friendly environment through the use of pictorial controls, overlapping windows, menu handling, mouse operation and dialogue boxes for communication with the DM.
