Abstract

This paper shows that the standard and cumbersome method of traditional justification of constancy of an asymptotic velocity in gravity assists, in the model of the circular restricted three-body problem (RTBP), which is applied in the modern astrodynamics, can be fundamentally simplified. Updated forms of the Jacobi integral are presented, which allow one, among other things, to reveal a transparent relationship between the Jacobi integral and the method of conjugate conic sections in the RTBP.
