Abstract

This paper deals with a design, modeling and simulation of power factor correction (PFC) based LED (Light Emitting Diode) driver operated on a universal AC mains. The proposed PFC SEPIC (Single Ended Primary Inductance Converter) converter based topology operates in continuous conduction mode (CCM) to drive the LED lamp. The simulation of performance of high power factor (PF) and low crest factor (CF) LED driver is carried out with constant lamp voltage for retrofit applications. In this topology, constant DC link voltage allows to feed constant current to LED lamp. Modeling and simulation are performed for an 18 W, 220 V, 50 Hz LED lighting load. Power quality indices are evaluated to validate the performance of proposed topology as per compliance of stringent international standard IEC61000-3-2 of class C equipments for universal input voltage.
