Abstract

A new multi-stimulus active ethylenediamine linkage centered Rhodamine B-diethylamino hydroxycoumarin conjugate (RhB-DHC) was designed and successfully fabricated by simple one step strategy. The synthesized compound RhB-DHC displays distinct methanol responsive feature via color transformation from colorless to purple among the various solvents used, aggregation induced emissive (AIE) behavior in EtOH-water mixture and acidochromic property through spirolactum ring opening and closing response of rhodamine B moiety. In solid state, RhB-DHC discloses mechanofluorochromic phenomenon by fluorescence color change upon mechanical grinding. Further, the occurrence of ground state proton transfer reaction in RhB-DHC was recognized by solid state structure, DFT and time dependent DFT calculations.
