Abstract

This paper proposes a novel Reduced Switch Count (RSC) T-type Packed U-Cell Switched Capacitor (T-PUCSC)-based Multilevel Inverter (MLI) topology with 2 DC sources, 8 switches and 2 capacitors. It has the capability to produce 9 levels in symmetric source (1:1) configuration and 11 levels in asymmetric source configuration (3:2) with the same switching action. For controlling operation, a new Unified Rounding Control Scheme (URCS-Low Switching Frequency Technique) has been introduced by taking reference as the Nearest Level Control (NLC) technique and applied to this topology. The proposed control scheme operates at fundamental frequency by switching losses that are greatly minimized. This control scheme takes less computational time as compared with the NLC technique and thereby design control complexity further reduces. The operation of topology and performance of the proposed control scheme have been validated through MATLAB/Simulink platform.
