Abstract

In this paper, a double-layer compact and high-isolated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna composed of rectangular microstrip patches is designed on a 36.8 mm $\times 30$ mm substrate. Because one antenna port is located at the zero point of the electric current distribution generated when the other antenna is excited, a high isolation can be achieved. Specifically, when the distance between the centers of the two patches is 0.167 $\lambda_{0}$,($\lambda_{0}$ is the free space wavelength at 6.5 GHz), a very low mutual coupling of -23 dB can be achieved, and the lowest coupling of -39 dB can even be achieved in the -10 dB working bandwidth. The proposed structure and design procedure can provide a valuable idea for the realization of compact and high-isolated MIMO antenna array.
