Abstract

A compact multi-beam 2×2 patch array antenna, with the ability of switching the radiation beam and polarization, is presented. Each element antenna has two sets of perturbation segments for circular polarization agility and three switchable feeding probes, which are integrated with a designed single-pole triple-throw (SPTT) switch. The phase distribution required for different radiation beams is realized by selecting proper feeding probes for each element antenna. The array antenna is capable of simultaneously switching the radiation beams among nine different directions and reconfiguring the polarization between two orthogonal circular polarization states with an enhanced 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth.
