Abstract
Navy blue crystals of a two-coordinate homoleptic palladium complex with two phosphinyl radical ligands was synthesized by a simple ligand-exchange reaction. Significant π interactions between orbitals of Pd and the SOMO of phosphinyl radicals are responsible for the diamagnetic character, the intense blue color, and short PPd distances. Hydrogenation of the complex gave the corresponding bis(dialkylhydrophosphine)palladium complex.
