Abstract

Anisotropic superconducting gap has been observed in the tunneling spectroscopy of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d (Bi2212) superconducting whisker. Tunnel junction was fabricated by using the break junction method along thea- andb-axes of the Bi2212 whisker. The superconducting energy gaps at 4.2 K have been obtained to be 2Δ a = 72 meV and 2Δ b 60 meV in the direction of thea- andb-axes, respectively. The anisotropic gap of the Bi2212 superconductor has been found to show a considerabled-wave component in the pair wave function.
