Abstract

This paper presents a modified reflective analog predistortion circuit to enable the tuning capability of gain and phase conversions. A variable impedance matching network based on varactor diode is introduced in the circuit to achieve the tuning function by changing its bias voltage. Based on this modified circuit, a tunable predistorter for traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA) is designed and fabricated. The fabricated predistorter shows more than 5.5 dB tuning range of gain conversion and 49.0° tuning range of phase conversion in 29–31 GHz with the bias voltage varies from 0 V to 20 V. Good linearity enhancement has been obtained for a Ka-band TWTA with this predistorter.
