Abstract

An electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is a backbone in electrifying the transport sector and can offer a wide range of functionalities to the utility grid if equipped with the right hardware and software. This study presents a T-type converter-based EV charger with active power filter (APF) functionality. The considered power topology in this study consists of a three-phase T-type converter (AC/DC power stage) and a dual active bridge converter (DC/DC power stage), which regulates the power flow between the grid and EV battery. The presented hybrid control algorithm allows the EV charger to operate either in EV charger mode or APF mode. A simulation model is developed in PSIM environment and the performance of the proposed control algorithm is tested in charging mode and APF mode.
