Abstract

A composite pulse train generator is described. The circuit consists of three single pulse generator units, each of them using an avalanche transistor as a pulse generator and two charge storage diodes, the one as the leading and the other as the trailing edge shaper. The output pulse shape consists of three pulses spaced at time intervals variable in steps. The lowest value is 2 ns. The pulse train is of continuously variable amplitude, the highest available being 4 V on the 50 Ω load. The single pulse half-amplitude width is approximately 1 ns and the rise and fall-time less than 1 ns. These data have been measured on a 0.6 ns rise-time sampling oscilloscope.
