Abstract

Aaron John Sharp, Ph.D., known affectionately as Jack, Jack, A. J., Uncle Speedy, or Dr. Sharp to his acquaintances, students, and colleagues, died November 16, 1997, following a long struggle with bone cancer compounded by complications from a broken hip that occurred a few days before his death. Jack's reputation as an exceptional teacher, botanist, ecologist, and bryologist gave him prominence in the local community as well as in the national and international botanical world.
