Abstract

Energy harvesting from readily available mechanical energy can be a beneficial and promising source for powering micro and nano-scale devices. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) technology proved to be a simple and cost-effective method to harness ambient mechanical energy. In this communication, we are reporting Indium tin oxide coated PET (ITO/PET) sheets based high-performance TENG device for biomechanical energy harvesting. We used the ITO and PET sides of ITO/PET sheets as frictional layers in the TENG design. The fabricated TENG produced an output voltage and current of ∼224.1 V, and 79.9 µA, respectively. The power density of the fabricated TENG is 171.6 mW/m2. Further, the fabricated TENG device has been directly explored for powering ∼60 LEDs and demonstrated in self-powered direction indicator display applications.
