Abstract

A degenerate optical parametric oscillator (DOPO) has unique characteristics available for quantum-mechanical applications, whose behavior is conventionally analyzed based on a short-cavity laser model. This paper presents a traveling-wave model for a pulse-pumped DOPO in a long ring cavity, where an isolated pulse goes round the cavity while alternatively amplified and attenuated. Such a DOPO system is analyzed based on a multistage-amplification model, the results of which reasonably show the lasing behavior of a DOPO.
