Abstract

This paper presents a possible answer to the simulation of GaAs device using the Monte Carlo method with a transputer approach. In section 1, we briefly discuss the Monte Carlo method which consists of following the detailed transport histories of each individual carrier. We explain why the Monte Carlo method needs large computation times and we show a typical problem of the parallel processing of Monte Carlo method. An implementation of Monte Carlo method based on a 32 Transputers system (Multicluster of PARSYTEC) is then discribed in section 2. Each transputer of the network emulates the behavior of a sub-set of carriers. In section 3, we illustrate the effectiveness (i.e. speed-up, overhead) of various transputer network topologies and we compare the simulation cost to the other classical approaches (i.e. COMPAQ 386, CDC CYBER 962/32, IBM 3090). In the last section, future works and conclusions are presented.
