Abstract

It is postulated that the topologically optimum sequential sampling procedure for a stream network is to sample by successive elimination through division of the network at the centroid. The total number of samples is bounded by a minimum of [log3Mo] and a maximum of 2 {1 + [log3Mo]}. The mode is given by 1 + [log2Mo] where Mo is the link magnitude of the stream at the outlet. The results are used to develop a uniform sampling plan for the Edisto River in South Carolina.
