Abstract

In this paper, design and implementation of an asynchronous high speed data acquisition and transfer system based on DSK6416 evaluation board is presented. This board has Texas Instruments' TMS320C6416T Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chip which belongs to TMS320C64X family. Despite DSK6416 evaluation board acquires data at 96kHz sampling rate with its integrated audio codec chip, TLV320AIC23, we increased data acquisition speed to 5.68MHz using with THS1206EVM Analog Digital Converter (ADC) board. As a result, data acquisition capability of DSK6416 board enhanced from hearable sound range to ultrasonic sound range (>20kHz). DSK6416 board can be used as a digitizer unit in the NonDestructive Testing (NDT) systems after this hardware revision. Data transfer speed between DSP chip and ADC board is 62.5MHz this provides short data acquisition time (16ns) for each read operation from ADC. Thus plenty of time remains for digital signal process tasks.
