Abstract

This article presents mode launcher for surface wave excitation on a single conductor Transmission line (SCTL). The launcher is designed with planar microstrip technology on an FR4 substrate and operates between 530 MHz - 940 MHz frequency bands. The proposed surface wave launcher is simulated using CST Studio with 100 cm separation between the launcher and mounted on a single conductor transmission line. In experiment with fabricated launcher, the peak efficiency (measured S21) of −6.5 dB is observed when the two launchers are placed facing each other at a gap of 100 cm on SCTL. The presented surface wave launcher is compact, low-profile, has high transmission efficiency, and can be easily installed without harming the conductor line.
