Abstract

A heterogeneous distributed database system (HDDS) integrates existing database systems to support global transactions which access multiple databases, where local database systems may use different concurrency control mechanisms. This heterogeneity together with the requirement of preserving the autonomy of the local databases makes the problem of ensuring the serializability of global transactions more difficult compared to the distributed database systems. This paper proposes a concurrency control algorithm based on the timestamp ordering. The proposed algorithm guarantees the serializability of transactions without a deadlock, and preserves the autonomy of the local database systems. >
