Abstract

This study provides a record of one day of literacy learning at home of a three year old child. It indicates the wide variety of literacy activities which a young child explores and often initiates. The importance of story readings as well as repeated readings of the same book are noted. However, the use of other print at home, songs and games, drawing and writing, environmental print and other occasions when literacy was considered are also recorded. The key role of the adults, and older sister, as role models and within interactions was recognised.
